We asked Corrigan and Klein Artisan Builders to showcase their approach and some of the projects that exemplify this. Here’s their response.
With a focus on artistry, sustainability, environmental and social wellbeing, we craft contemporary spaces from time tested traditions. Unique, modern timber frames hand cut and sourced from local timbers form the structure of our homes, the finishing are then crafted to suit clients’ personal aesthetics.
In this contemporary barn home we worked with our clients to create a European sensibility within a Vermont setting while adding personal touches to imbue the home with a sense of place. The stair treads were milled from a pine tree removed from the house site. The window layout was designed to optimize views and light. The floor was battered and worn to create a reclaimed barn floor finish and the walls were painted white to highlight the exceptional craftsmanship of the frame and provide a sense of tranquility.
Each material is chosen for specific qualities relating to durability and sustainability. In exterior applications we use highly rot resistant woods, such as this white oak farmers porch. Inside we coat bare wood surfaces with Heritage Natural Finishes for a non-toxic, sustainable oil finish. We super insulate our homes to ensure warmth and minimal energy usage year round. And in all elements of construction we strive to source minimally processed materials from local businesses.
